Media practitioners in Delta have been called upon to stick to the ethics of journalism in their reportage and eschew speculative and fictitious reporting. The Commissioner for Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu, made the call on Wednesday in Asaba, while reacting to reports of falsehood trending in the social media deliberately intended to malign senior government officials in the state. Aniagwu, who particularly made reference to one of such reports, told journalists that the linking memos to the Permanent Secretary, Directorate of Government House and Protocol, was outright misrepresentation by the online reporter, and said that memos were public documents. The Lagos State Law Enforcement Training Institute (LETI) has charged newly trained Central Business District (CBD) Enforcement Officers to uphold integrity and professionalism in the discharge of their duties. The Director General LETI, Mr Ifalade Oyekan made the call at the end of a three-day training held at the institute for new volunteers of the CBD Corps. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 40 officers participated in the law enforcement officers proficiency training. They were trained on various aspects of law enforcement including public transportation and traffic management, emotional intelligence, investigation, human relations, first aid, physical agility and self defense. Oyekan said the training was in fulfillment of the institute’s mandate to equip law enforcement officers with 21st century professional standards and tactical proficiency needed for quality delivery of service. The Lagos State Waste Management Authority has announced the immediate termination of all street-sweeping briefs awarded to some companies found involved in practices violating their contracts. The Agency also revealed that the recent audit exercise approved by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu exposed the sharp practices of the agents, assuring that services will be repositioned for greater efficiency and value for tax-payers’ money. The announcement, which was contained in a statement issued by the Agency on Friday, noted that the termination of the contracts was informed by established cases of unethical behaviour. The statement maintained that all employees of the affected companies could re-apply directly to the Authority for employment consideration. First Bank of Nigeria Limited on Tuesday raised the bar of its social responsibility and commitment to public safety as it  announced that one of its staff at its Marina, Lagos branch, has tested positive to coronavirus (COVID-19). One of the contractors of the Lagos State Waste Management Authority, Wuraola Williams, aka Iron Lady, who was accused of fraud, has allegedly been hospitalised. Williams, who spoke to our correspondent on Tuesday, said she was ill and could not react to the allegations of fraud against her. She immediately cut the call. However, a lady, who later picked her phone after The PUNCH called back, said Lagos streets were clean and that was enough proof that Iron Lady was doing her job well. LAWMA has 652 contractors (PSP operators) covering 600 routes in Lagos State. The Punch had reported that the contractors usually employed sweepers and supervisors, on whose behalf wage bills were submitted before payments were made by the government. However, some of the operators were reported to have mastered the art of inflating the wage bills, through which they defrauded the government of hundreds of millions of naira.
