APC crisis, Oshiomhole bows out. |Flycomnews

By: Fashina Shakiru Flycomnews. Former national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC)  Mr Adams Oshiomhole bows out. In a press conference in Abuja on Saturday, while addressing the newsmen, says bound to obey  the leader of the party. According to him, I have accepted the decision of the party’s national executive committee (NEC) to dissolve the national working committee (NWC). Oshiomhole urged his lawyers to withdraw his appeal pending at the supreme court. While thanking President Muhammadu Buhari had two years ago invited him to come and reposition the APC and that since the president in his wisdom has also agreed to the dissolution of the NWC. However, he is bound to obey him as the leader of the party. The former Edo governor was challenging a court of appeal order upholding his suspension him as chairman of the party. The NWC was dissolved by the party’s NEC on Thursday.

Nigeria's President Mohammadu Buhari has approved and regrouped Interim Management Committee of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) from three to five as Prof Daniel Pondei is the New Acting Managing Director, to replace Barrister Joy Nunieh. Mr President made this known today during weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) Meeting in Abuja  The five members of the enlarged committee are now headed by Prof Daniel Pondei, Managing Director, Dr Cairo Ojougboh,  Executive Director (Projects), Mr Ibanga Bassey Etang, . Executive Director (Finance and Administration), Mrs Caroline Nagbo (Member); and Cecilia Bukola Akintomide, OON, a former Vice President with African Development Bank, (Member). The Acting Managing Director, Prof  Pondei is a Professor of Medicine from Niger Delta University, and former Provost, College of Health Sciences of the institution.

The Senate has introduced a bill which seeks to establish a Federal Government agency to check hate speech in the country . It also prescribed death by hanging as the maximum punishment for certain categories of offenders . The bill , sponsored by a former Senate spokesperson , who is now the Deputy Senate Whip, Sabi Abdullahi , passed first reading on the floor of the red chamber on Tuesday . It is titled , “ National Commission for the Prohibition of Hate Speech ( Estb . , etc ) Bill 2019 . But a few hours after the bill passed the first reading, groups and individuals including former Vice -President Atiku Abubakar , eminent lawyers and civil rights organisations , warned that it was death sentence for democracy in the country .  They described the bill as draconian. Sokoto Commissioner pledges more support for youths

The Sokoto State Commissioner of Science and Technology, Dr Kulu Abubakar, has pledged more support for youths to be self reliant in Nigeria. Dr Abubakar made this known when she received an Award of Excellence from a youth organisation "Nigerian Peace Initiative for Peace and Good Governance" in her office in Sokoto State. She said "considering the contribution of youths, it becomes necessary to carry them along and add their quota to the development of the society." Dr Abbakar stated that "the award would serve as a motivation to her to redouble efforts in rendering more services to the community, Sokoto State and the country at large." Sanwo-Olu Presents N1.168trillion for 2020 budget

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Friday, presented the Year 2020 Budget proposal to the House of Assembly, unveiling his administration’s plan to accelerate the growth of the State’s economy by proposing aggressive investments in critical priority areas - physical infrastructure, environment, human capital and security. Sanwo-Olu announced that the State expenditure of N1.168 trillion will be funded from a projected Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of N1.071 trillion while the budget deficit, put at N97.53 billion, will be financed through internal and external loans, just as he noted that the fiscal proposal also included a provision for the new minimum wage. Giving a breakdown of the budget tagged “Awakening to a Greater Lagos”, Sanwo-Olu earmarked 62 per cent representing N723.75 billion of total spending for capital expenditure, revealing that recurrent expenditure, put at 38 per cent, will take N444.81 billion. Ghanaian traders shut down more foreign-owned shops as Nigeria’s border crisis worsens.

Photo; Check point on Nigerian side of border with Benin Republic  Members of Ghana's main traders’ union GUTA, stormed Accra’s shopping district on Monday closing down more than 100 foreign–run shops. The businesses targeted were said to be violating a Ghanaian law barring non-nationals from operating in the domestic retail space, according to the Myjoyonline news website. But experts see the action as a response to Nigeria’s closure of its border with Benin on August 21st of this year. The measure left scores of Ghanaian traders stuck inside Nigeria with thousands of tons of goods which were due to transit through Benin by road. The Ghanaian traders’ union says up to 100 trucks of goods belonging to Ghanaian traders have been locked up in Nigeria since Abuja closed the country’s border with Benin in July, 2019.
