ICPC seizes 44 Properties worth N14.7bn from 32 Firms

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) collaboration with the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) had found and seized 44 properties made up of mansions, factory and 27 plots of lands allegedly linked to 32 corporate entities, Flycomnews learnt. A statement released by Spokesperson for the commission, Mrs. Rasheedat A. Okoduwa, mni, said: “The properties whose cumulative value has been put at N14.7 billion were seized after the entities denied their ownership. “The commission, in collaboration with the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) had found that the entities had N883.7 million tax liability on the seized properties. “The seizure is based on Section 45(4) of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act 2000. “The seized properties, all located in the Federal Capital Territory include: two mansions, 27 bare lands, one factory building, and 15 buildings at Asokoro, Maitama and other districts.”

The wife of slain Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi revealed “a lot of information” about the jihadist group’s “inner workings” after she was captured last year, a Turkish official said. The official said that Baghdadi’s spouse identified herself as Rania Mahmoud but was in fact Asma Fawzi Muhammad Al-Qubaysi. She was said to be the “first wife” of the IS leader, who was killed in a US special forces raid in Syria last month. The woman was arrested on June 2, 2018 in the province of Hatay, near the Syrian border, along with 10 others, including Baghdadi’s daughter, who identified herself as Leila Jabeer. The official said the family links were confirmed using a DNA sample of Baghdadi provided by Iraqi authorities. “We discovered (the wife’s) real identity pretty quickly. Lagos Governor Applauds Nigerian Army Over Arrests of Boko Haram Terrorists

The Lagos State Governor Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has reiterated the government’s commitment to the safety of residents and visitors to the State, following the arrest of some Boko Haram suspects. The Governor, in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, praised the gallantry of officers of the 81 Division of the Nigerian Army who foiled an attempted attack on one of the universities in Lagos. Giving emphasis to the operation that led to the arrest of the Boko Haram suspects by the military operatives, the Commissioner maintained that the security apparatus of the State has strategies in place to forestall any threat to the peace that exists in Lagos. NGIJ Concludes Bayelsa Governance Assessment Tour The Nigerian Guild of Investigative Journalists (NGIJ) on Friday concluded Governance Assessment Investigations on administration of Governor Henry Seriake Dickson in Bayelsa State.
