With the Christmas and New Year festivities around the corner, Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has affirmed its readiness to meet the waste management needs of residents during the season and to consolidate on its year round vision of establishing a cleaner and healthier Lagos. In a statement released by the Authority, the Managing Director/CEO of LAWMA, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin disclosed that bearing in mind the anticipated 100 per cent increase in waste generation during the period, the Authority would leave no stone unturned in ensuring that the season was celebrated in a clean environment. The Managing Director of Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, has reiterated the agency's commitment to improving the waste management services rendered by private sector participants (PSP) through robust government assistance to sustain their businesses. As a sign-post of greater things to come the way of these entrepreneurs, Dr. Gbadegesin presented consolatory cheques to three PSP operators whose compactors got burnt on active duty. ...steps up Enforcement  The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has called on residents to properly dispose of their domestic wastes by bagging them and patronizing assigned PSP operators.  The Managing Director of LAWMA, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, in a statement, disclosed that measures had been put in place to reposition the services of PSP operators in the state and ensure that household waste evacuation was carried out at least once in a week. Argentina and Brazil have approved new export plants to meet demand and are selling beef and chickens, as well as pork, to fill the gap. Dr Rilwanu Mohammed, Chairman Bauchi State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (BSPHDA), disclosed that 29 people had died from an outbreak of yellow fever in the state According to him, we discovered 224 suspected cases, and 29 were confirmed dead, with 24 in Alkaleri local government, two in Bauchi local government, 1 in Darazo council area and two in Ningi local government,” he said. The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), has concluded plans to decommission its landfill sites at Olusosun and Solous, due to urban encroachment and increased human activities around the areas. The hint was given by the managing director of the agency Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, who noted that the move became necessary as both sites drew close to the end of their life spans. According to him, 'The process of winding down activities at those landfill sites has commenced.
