PELERUWA MARKET SITES FOR NEW LAGOS ISLAND LOCAL GOVERNMENT SECRETARIAT - OLUSI

Lagos Island Local Government Chairman, Mayor Honourable Tijani Adetoyese Olusi , has said that his administration remains committed to meeting the yearnings and aspirations of our people in the area of infrastructural development and human capital development.
Olusi made this known at year 2020 budget stakeholders meeting held at the council Secretariat, Zappa Hall, Lagos island on Tuesday.
The chairman assured the participants at the meeting that some of the requests raised at the stakeholders meeting held at the same venue are still outstanding owing to limited resources, the modest achievements recorded in the out-gone year is an indication that this administration is on the right track.
He said: "We are optimistic that at the end of our tenure, with your continued support, more progress would have been made.
He reveals that, we have an ambition to bequeath a befitting Secretariat in the model of the City Hall to this local government as soil test has already been conducted on Peleruwa Market being considered to be used for the Council Secretariat project.
"We have decided that substantial percentage of the funds required for the construction of this Secretariat project would be generated from our internal revenue sources. We are therefore, currently putting finishing touches to a new strategy to maximize our internally generated revenue.
He appealed for cooperation and understanding from Bombata Market to accommodate Peleruwa market as engagement process has been going on to ensure that there is minimal discomfort experience during the relocation.
He restates his emphasis that at the moment members of staff in revenue sections have been recalled back to the headquarters. The import of this is that revenue collection activities at markets, on-streets, wares-points, plazas, environment, works etc have been suspended until further notice and therefore, no rate payer is to make any payment until otherwise directed.
He also assured that necessary announcements will be made when the embargo is lifted as no official of Lagos island local government is permitted to interface with any rate payer.
While he promised that Lagos island local government shall continue with policy of upgrading of inner roads by making them motorable as the state government ready for intervention of rehabilitation and reconstruction major of roads in Lagos Island.
This is in line with the regeneration plan of the government at the state level. As you are aware part of the inspection tour of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu few days back in Lagos island, Olusi said.
