Atiku Didn’t Build Private Varsity For Money – Peter Obi |FlycomNews
The vice presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party , Mr Peter Obi, has said his presidential candidate , Atiku Abubakar, did not build his private university , American University of Nigeria, for financial gains.
Obi, who spoke during a town hall meeting in Abuja, tagged ‘ The Candidates, ’ on Wednesday evening , stated that Abubakar built the university in his home state of Adamawa because he saw the priority of human development .
The former Anambra governor said, “He ( Abubakar) built a private university . Tell me who else among his class built one. And to show you that he wasn ’ t building the university for money , he built it in Adamawa .
“He had the opportunity as vice president to take land in Abuja and build it , or build it in Lagos . He saw the imperative of education for development and went to develop an area that should have been developed. ”
When the moderator , Kadaria Ahmed, asked why Abubakar did not develop the education system instead , Obi said, “Under the PDP , the Universal Basic Education ( Commission ) was started. It even went to tax companies two per cent to establish that office to be able to educate the people .
“It was actually partnering with states in order to be able to educate their people . Go and look at all the states that are doing badly today; they are from one party .”
