Over 6000 school children De-wormed in Kano|FlycomNews



Flycomnews gathered that no fewer than 6000 school children from selected schools in various local government areas in Kano State have been de-wormed by Bako Kontagora Development Foundation, the organisers of the exercise said.
According to the Chief Operating Officer of the Foundation, Hauwa Bako Mohammed,   the de-worming and feeding exercise which was aimed at reaching 5000 children aged 5-10 years comprising girls and boys was exceeded by a thousand when the one week exercise rounded up on Saturday 19th January in the ancient city of Kano.

Mohammed said the intervention exercise was a continuation of the de-worming exercise flagged off by his Excellency, the executive governor of Kano state, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje on the 18th of March, 2018 at Garrun Mallam, where 1,000 children were fed and de-wormed.

“The second phase of the intervention from January 14th to 19th 2019 was the concluding part of the exercise in the state. So far the exercise has taken place at Bebeji, Kumbotso, Ungogo, Bagwai, Shanono rounding up at the Mariri IDP Camp which took place on Saturday, 19th of January.

“Part of the intervention team included officials of the State ministries of health, education and local government affairs, others are representatives from Kano Electricity Development Company (KEDCO) which donated bottled water for the intervention and community volunteers accompanied the team to the schools. The CBN corporate social responsibility department also sent representatives,” she said.

She also added that aside the feeding and de-worming of the children; their teachers were enlightened on the need for constant sensitization and regular deworming of the pupils and to also ensure the practices of hand washing to enhance personal hygiene for sound health.

Mohammed said BKDF as a Non- governmental development foundation that is into SustainableDevelopment Goal 2 whose objective is to end hunger, achieve food security and improve nutrition, andpromote sustainable agriculture; SDG 3 - good health and well-being; SDG 4 - Quality education, SDG 5 - gender equality and SGD17 – Partnership for the goals as well as play essential role of delivering need based essential and partnered services tothe population, will always appreciate any support to ensure such goals are achieved.

“Our implementation efforts are targeted at very remote areas other humanitarian organizations have not yet reached thereby complementing their effort and achieving the goals of BKDF which is in line with our SDG objectives. Our methodology is intended to create an atmosphere of inclusion, hope and love for children who are the leaders of tomorrow.
